Supply teaching popular due to teacher burn out

This is certainly something we see more and more of in our daily routine as an Education Recruitment Consultant. Statistics from the Department for Education show that there were just under 40,000 teachers leave the profession in 2016 this represents around 9% of all teacher from government stats. Unfortunately, there are currently more teachers leaving than being replaced.

The UK supply spend currently at a record high of 1.3billion, and the teaching profession has the highest sickness and stress of all other professions.

This does mean that supply teaching becomes an attractive option for the teacher who wants to step away from the 60 hour week that teachers currently face on average.

We hear more and more that recruitment companies are even going overseas to find teachers within specialist subject areas to relocate to the UK

All eyes are now facing Damian Hinds who's appointment as the new education secretary this year could see some changes for the better? Who know's, only time will tell. However, something needs to be done as the current trend will no doubt be making children around the UK suffer in their education.

If you are a supply teacher in Cornwall or the South West looking for additional hours, please do get in touch with Opus-ABC your local teaching agency.
