Opus Education are working on behalf of a small independent, co-educational school with the aim of being the first-choice provider for young people aged 5-16 years with special educational needs in Devon and Cornwall. Our school received an Ofsted Good rating in 2017 and is located in a tranquil, countryside setting.
Due to there exciting expansion plans for 2022 and beyond, we are looking to recruit Learning Support Assistants to support the school's goal of providing high quality learning for students with complex and additional educational needs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about education and teaching, who wants to work with children and young people to develop their knowledge and skills to become successful lifelong learners.

Several of our current staff started with us as Teaching Assistants, and are now studying to become Teachers or Vocational Instructors.
Our classes are very small which will enable you to make good relationships with the children and to get to know their individual needs, learning styles and preferences well so that you can contribute to the development of individual education plans and learning journeys.

The successful candidate will work under the guidance of a Teacher and a Senior Teaching Assistant to undertake learning and therapeutic programmes. You will facilitate learners to access learning and assist the teacher in the teaching of pupils and the management of the classroom environment. Teaching and learning may be carried out in the classroom or as part of other alternative provision beyond the classroom.
The position is for 35 hours per week, times to be confirmed by the school and subject to negotiation for the right candidate.
The role will include attending to the safety and wellbeing of pupils including those with special educational needs, delivering bespoke learning/care/support programmes and implementing literacy/numeracy programmes, and undertaking general administrative and teaching support for the teacher.
