Opus Education are currently acting on behalf of a Multi Academy Trust who are looking to appoint a Family Support Assistant. 

The MAT have several sites across Cornwall and Devon, the academy focus on education and supporting students with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition and related Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

All students have an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) and are supported in their tutor and teaching groups by teachers and teaching assistants. The acadamies aim to keep our groups small with no more than 10 students, allowing them to deliver the personalised, differentiated learning that enables our students to succeed.

Role Summary

The role of Family Support Assistant involves providing effective support for students and their families and involves working under the direction of the Family Support Co-Ordinator to ensure good outcomes for all our families. You will deliver professional, impartial and outcome-focussed support to help students make progress, thrive and fulfil their academic, personal, and social potential.

This role is an exciting opportunity to further embed excellence in our school family by contributing to the development of our Family Association as well as to plan, facilitate and deliver, alongside our Family Support Co-ordinator, workshops and holiday programmes for our students and their families. 

The role will also include individual case work to support families with accessing services as well as support within their local community.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

  •  Undertake meetings, interventions, and support planning and reviewing to advise and work with families to find the most appropriate way in which they can address and resolve issues.
  • Be a link between home and school, providing a direct line of communication and link with the school.
  • Undertake the role of Name or Lead Professional where appropriate.
  • Secure good attendance for all students within our school family.
  • Support all families to access the full range of support, services and benefits to enable them to access work, leisure and other opportunities as is available to a family in their community.

Further Duties include but are not limited to

  • Provide advice and guidance to families and students with known attendance issues at the point of transition into the new school, identifying the expectations from the school and also identifying how the school can provide assistance to the family should this be necessary.
  • Develop specific pieces of work, in agreement with the family, which could involve visiting families at home with the purpose of empowering them to make the best use of their own resources, eg supporting families whose children are experiencing emotional health difficulties.
  • Provide advice and guidance to families in an informal setting and explain and publicise the available areas of assistance, eg parenting courses.
  • Ensure that all aspects of monitoring the supervision of student whilst excluded are in place and operating effectively. Monitor and amend the provision of other services or assist families to provide the necessary skills to enable an improvement in ability to deploy the appropriate skills to meet requirements.
  • Facilitate appropriate group activities and family support or intervention education programmes.
  • Facilitate the planning, delivery, and review of parenting groups and holiday provision

Salary: £17,391 Per Annum (Actual)

Contract Type: Temp to Perm/Permanent, Full Time (44 weeks per year)
