Opus Education are currently looking for an Assistant Safeguarding and Well-being Manager, to work in a specialist SEN provision in the Holsworthy area of Devon. 

This school was created specifically to provide a unique and enjoyable learning experience for young people aged 5-16 years old with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and autism.

The Assistant safeguarding and well-being manager will be supporting the safeguarding lead and other leaders within the school to ensure the safety and well being of pupils on site. 

Job Description:

  • To support the school’s goal of providing a high-quality curriculum for students who may have complex educational needs and barriers to learning.
  • To ensure that the school’s systems and arrangements promote pupils’ personal development, welfare, health and safety.
  • To support pupils to make good progress and achieve their personal development potential including: good health, behaviour and attendance, wellbeing, safety, supportive relationships and self-understanding.
  • To support staff, colleagues, parents/carers so that students are able to take advantage of the opportunities for personal development which are available.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the Safeguarding and Well-being Manager to deliver a high quality PSHE curriculum which will include, Sex and Relationship Education, Equality and Diversity and online safety.
  • Oversee the work of colleagues to ensure the school delivers a range of extra-curricular activities and events which enhance the student experience, and supports positive wellbeing, promotion of equality, and celebration of diversity.
  • Work with SLT to improve communication and develop computer systems to assess and track pupils’ personal development, including behaviour, attendance and well-being.
  • Communicate with outside agencies, staff, parents/carers and pupils with regard to their wellbeing and personal development.
  • To deliver safeguarding, Prevent & British values training, and ensuring that all safeguarding records are maintained & accurate, producing reports, and liaison with all statutory and regulatory bodies on safeguarding matters.
  • To work as part of the safeguarding team with the DSL and Chair of Governors.
  • To be the lead for all looked after children and ensuring PEPs are CLA reviews are carried out and information shared appropriately.
  • To monitor behaviour and physical interventions through evidence-based systems and give advice and guidance as appropriate following each handling intervention working in partnership within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Offer professional supervision to colleagues to improve their wellbeing and increase their capacity to support pupils.
  • Manage and maintain effectiveness of implementation of the school’s behaviour systems and pastoral care, including all safeguarding procedures.
  • Use the performance management process to enhance professional practice in line with the school’s aspirations and priorities and to advance learning.
  • Research and evaluate best practice in other schools and schools and implement new initiatives as appropriate.
  • Brief new and existing staff on safeguarding and behaviour policies and strategies. Assist with planning and delivery of training for staff, including full staff meetings to ensure consistent standards of practice across the school.

Education and Training: 

  • Level 4 literacy and numeracy qualifications
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead training Level 3 and Level 2 in safeguarding adults & children.
